Hello, I am Rachael and look forward to supporting to live your best life by playing forward the inspiration and words of wisdom that I have been given me by so many wonderful people in my life.
As someone who values achievement and a growth mindset I threw myself into life. As a mum and home keeper with a professional career, I learnt what it was like to have to juggle, manage with sleepless nights, worry and live with high stress. We decided to change our lives and reduce my hours when my son was 2 and moved to the country, three weeks later my sister died suddenly leaving her 10-year-old daughter who came to live with us. I had to continue to work full-time and took on a global role. I tried many things to support myself and to change my life; some were useful but nothing worked long term. I lost count of how many times I said ‘What is wrong with me?’, I could not join the dots – something was missing.
We are un-inundated with information about the latest personal development or self-help craze, we buy the book try it out and maybe have some short-lived success but soon we are back to our old ways, stressed, acquiring bad habits, and not achieving your goals nor living the life you want. So, we continue to struggle through life, feeling stuck not sure which
way to turn or what to do for the best.
I was fortunate to meet and study with Professor Robert Quinn at Ross Business School at the University of Michigan, a wonderful man who ignited my interest in positive psychology and inspired me to ‘walk on the bridge as you build it’ and explore deep change. Until then, without realising, I had managed my work and home lives separately, with their competing values, I had lost who I was. My life was out of balance and in constant inner turmoil.
I believe we are all unique individuals, shaped by our DNA, physiology, upbringing, past experiences, thoughts and emotions, and yet we believe what works for someone else will work for us – and when we fail we blame ourselves. Our mind is the basis for all our experiences in our life and yet we hardly acknowledge it or understand how our brain works. As soon as we understand how our mind works it becomes obvious why we do not achieve our goals or suffer from bouts of unhappiness, stress and irritability – the key is not to let your mind trick you…
I have a wonderful family, a successful career and still value achievement and growth however I manage life as a whole now and value balance and a sense of connectedness over achievement.
